How to Get Rid of Gophers

A professional trapper can get rid of gophers.

There are several ways to get rid of gophers.  Allstate Animal Control technicians use different techniques, depending on the circumstances.  Sometimes we use toxic gasses and fumigants to get rid of gophers, sometimes we use poisonous bait, and other times we use traps.  Most of the time, we use traps.

Gopher Traps
The traps we use for gophers do not catch the animals alive.  Live traps do not work very well for this particular animal, and so we use spring traps, snap traps, and body-gripping traps.  These traps kill almost instantly.  After the trap is sprung and a gopher killed, we simply remove the body and lay out another trap until they are all gone.  We believe this is the best way to get rid of gophers.

Fumitoxin
Another option is Fumitoxin.  This is a poisonous gas used for killing gophers as well as a few other pests.  It is dangerous for humans and is a Restricted Use Pesticide, meaning that only certified applicators may purchase it and legally use it.  It is similar in appearance to an aspirin tablet and is carefully deposited into gopher tunnels.  Fumitoxin is activated by air, and when air touches it it releases a poisonous gas.  This gas is fatal for gophers and has been blamed for a few human deaths as well.  Fumitoxin is serious stuff and the implications of using it should not be taken lightly.

Underground Poison
Sometimes we also lay underground poisons for gophers to feed on, but the success with this method is sporadic.

So if you need to know how to get rid of gophers we recommend traps.  For the most effective trapping we recommend you contact us for professional pest animal control.  1-888-488-7720.
