Squirrel Removal is Needed in Clinton County, Michigan

Squirrel removal is a job best left to professionals. Squirrel squirrels are mostly nocturnal so they are very rarely seen. These critters spend the daylight hours resting comfortably in the insulation of your attic. Then, when the sun goes down, the party starts. Noise, smell and mess are the most common squirrel complaints we receive.

Squirrel removal is the only way to make your home or building safe and healthy again. If a squirrel is in your home, it is most likely a mother squirrel seeking to establish a nest. Mother squirrels are fierce and formidable protectors and their bites can carry rabies. Many unsuspecting people have tried to do squirrel removal themselves thinking that such a small, cute creature won\'t cause them problems. Wrong!

Take this homeowner in Clinton County, Michigan:

What can I do about the squirrels in my attic? I tried to block them out, but they just tore away my attempted repairs. I have tried using De-con or other forms of mice or rat poison, but that hasn\'t done the trick. I am a little afraid of traps myself and don\'t relish the idea of dead bodies anyway. I need help. Steven H.

Squirrels in attics can be a huge problem, especially these days with the ever expanding cities and towns.  With fewer trees to take shelter in, squirrels often take refuge in homes, be it attics, vents, or walls, they’ll find it.  Not only do these critters cause quite an irritating racket, but they can also cause hundreds of dollars of damage to a property. Some people, however, don’t realize they’re sharing their home with squirrels, until it escalates to extremes.

After receiving a call about squirrels in an attic, technicians went out for an inspection, and what they found was unreal.  There weren’t two or three squirrels the owner had described, there were instead twenty or thirty squirrels all nesting in the attic!  The damage was extensive.  Torn drywall, scattered insulation, damaged and destroyed wires, feces and urine everywhere, nuts and garbage packed into corners, and that was just the start.  Not only were they destroying the attic, but they had chewed the line to the swamp cooler as well, and were causing water damage to the ceilings below.

The clients had heard the noise upstairs, and assumed it to be the wind, the AC and heater, and other sounds that you’d expect in a house.  When they realized that it was an animal, they started trying to scare them off with loud sounds and began calling animal controls for help, where they didn’t receive any.  By the time they finally found Platinum Wildlife Control, the situation had gotten out of hand.

Luckily, the technicians were up to the challenge.  They set up a venting system and a large cage and were able to remove every last one of the squirrels, and that was the easy part.  Once that was done they did all the clean-up they were licensed to do.  After the workers had done absolutely all that was in their power to do, they called in a contractor to work with the family to deal with the water damage and wiring.  It just goes to show that even the smallest sounds can turn into big problems.

Questions about Rat Removal

The rats in my home are everywhere. Such as my kitchen, living/dining room, basement, also my wife and I’s bedroom (my wife thinks they’ve been in our bed). They climb on top of the refrigerator, climb upstairs to my daughter room and chew at her door to get in, they’ve even eaten through several boxes in the pantry. We used peanut butter, which was probably stupid to try and trap them. We have only tried traps, so far no poison.  We plan on moving but it’s getting very bad, we don\'t know how they are getting in. Please help!

Rats are very intelligent creatures, so it’s not unlikely that they are trap shy from previous experience.  They can be extremely difficult to get rid of if you don’t know where they are getting in.  What people often forget is that rats can climb, it’s just as likely that they are getting in through the roofline as the foundation.  They could also be nesting in the walls.  You or a professional will need to identify where they are getting in at to be able to start tackling the problem.

Clinton County, Michigan has a Surprising Bat Population

We frequently are contacted by people in Clinton County, Michigan who have unwanted bats on their property.

I have a large home. Over the past few years, we have seen bat droppings on our porch in various places but especially below a window. We have also noticed bat droppings on the inside of the home on the opposite side of the dropping by the door. We have not seen any bats inside so far, but we have seen bats flying around outside in the evenings, particularly towards the end of summer or early fall. Byron C.

I have at least 300 bats living in the walls of my master bathroom. It is disgusting to contemplate, but I didn\'t really realize how big the problem was until we started remodeling this old house. It was in bad shape when we started so we still have places that are probably not sealed as well as they should be. Please call and let me know if you can help I have three children that I am worried about not only because of the rabies but they all three have asthma and these bats carry a lot of things. Chris N.

Bats in my house. I have two attics in a 2 1/2 story house and very high ceilings. The airconditioning unit is in one attic. When the hatch access door was opened to allow entry for service of the air system, out flew 9 bats. One week later I opened the hatch and 6 more flew out. I really want them ALL out. I\'m not sure how many that is, but I don\'t want to breathe bat air anymore. Joann L.

I can\'t sleep at night or even take naps during the day. I’ve counted 10 bats are in the attic, there might be more up there and I’m pretty sure we may have more in the walls. It’s getting out of control! Help!   -Lidia B.

I felt like Batman there were so many bats in my attic.  I couldn’t have been happier that Michigan Wildlife came to my rescue!  They were respectful, smart, and didn’t leave until my house was no longer a bat cave.  I couldn’t have asked for better help from a trapping company. - Aaron L.
