Shiawassee County, Michigan wants to get rid of raccoons

The following are raccoon problems related to us by residents of Shiawassee County, Michigan:

There is a Raccoon with babies in my attic (can hear them). The attic has no easy entry and is approximately 30 feet off the ground. Sounds like the babies might be in the walls. Marlene D.

I have a raccoon that is getting into my garbage every night. My concern is that it comes out around 7pm while its still light out. Is the animal sick? Why won\'t he leave my trash alone? Steve W.

I am trying to find information on disinfecting my attic space after a family of raccoons (I believe has moved out). The smell and mess are terrible big piles of poop in the insulation. What is the process for this service? Mike E.

I think that we may have a raccoon in the crawl space beneath the house and we can hear sounds underneath the house at night, although it sounds like just one animal. Haven\'t actually seen anything yet. We have seen tunnels/spots underneath the siding which look like something has burrowed in and gone under. I think it could be getting into the house because we’ve had dog food go missing several times. We\'ve nailed some cabinets shut that we think may have been an entry point. Looking for ways to get them to leave!

-Mark H.

I chased a raccoon out of my yard the other day, but I didn\'t realize she had 5 babies living in the crawlspace under my house! I don\'t know what to do with them.  Whenever i crawl under to try and just pull them out the hiss and growl at me.  I\'m afraid of being bitten.  Is there an easier way for me to do this? Can I just hire you guys?

-John T.

Questions about Skunks

We have a skunk problem under our porch. We had seen burrowing activity for weeks. Then there was a distinct skunk smell permeating through our basement. My husband closed up the hole in our yard with a couple of bricks. We have had no new holes made in our yard but it seems every morning there is a skunk smell coming into our house from where the original hole was made! I think the skunk has gone but we don\'t know how to get rid of the smell it has left! Hope to get some help on this. Thanks!

It is possible that when your husband sealed off the hole, he also sealed the skunk inside.  Many times, if you seal a living skunk off from its nest you will see scratching and digging around that area as they try to re-enter before they relocate.  Some other reasons for the skunk smell could be that it died under the house (or was dead when you sealed the entrance), or that it sprayed something down there.  Of course if it died, the rotting smell will couple with the skunk odor to make it absolutely awful.  If it’s just the spray however, it should fade in a few weeks.  We do offer odor control and dead animal removal that we can discuss without if that’s the route you would like to take.

We resolve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Shiawassee County and surrounding areas. Give me a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

The situations we resolve and main trapping and removal services we provide are: raccoon families in attics and chimneys, woodpeckers drilling siding. mud swallow nests on stucco, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, voles and gophers destroying lawns, skunks stealing pet food, bat infestations, and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their commotion and smell. Raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that I and my professional wildlife removal operators are prepared to solve.

I HAVE TRIED SCARE TATICS LIKE SPIDERS, SCARY EYE BALLOONS,REPELLENTS BUT STILL THE WOODPECKERS CONTINUE DRILLING HOLES. THEY DRILL OVER MY WINDOWS AND MY 2 SHEDS. I HAVE SPENT LOTS OF MONEY REPAIRING HOLES AND PAINTING MY HOUSE AND THEY CONTINUE TO DAMAGE MY HOUSE. Tracy J.

How do I stop woodpeckers from pecking at my house?  I feel like there’s nowhere on my house that this bird hasn’t touched.  There are holes on my doors, on my deck, some places on my roof, and everywhere on the outside walls.  It’ll cost me enough to fill in all of the holes the woodpecker left, I can’t spend thousands on a removal service.  Help me.

-Tara B.

I have a woodpecker destroying my house and I don’t really know what to do about it.  It looks like there’s polka dot paint on the outside walls.  It wakes us up in the morning pecking at the walls.  I don’t care what it takes, I just want it gone before my house falls apart.
