Follow the Yellow Brick Road

It was just a few weeks before Christmas when I received a call from a woman who needed my help retrieving a skunk that had fallen into a window well. The skunk had already been trapped a little over a week before she realized that it was there…long enough for it to dig a nice burrow for itself to hide from the harsh light of day. I showed up and set a trap just outside of the hole it was taking refuge in and told my customer that we would likely have a skunk in the trap by morning since it would be very hungry by now. The next morning I got a call from the customer reporting that the trap was shut with no skunk inside! I reset the trap and also put some food outside of the trap to make sure it had some sort of nourishment until I could resolve this.

Two more nights went by with the skunk refusing to go into the trap. It kept trying to dig around the trap, determined to find a way out on its own. I knew this would never happen since the climbing ability of a skunk is equivalent to humans’ ability to fly! So I decided to build the skunk a staircase out of flagstone so it could make its way out of the window well to safety. We were running out of time…it had now been close to two weeks without water. The staircase was tricky to build, but after about 40 minutes I finally had the perfect gradient for a skunk to climb out. The next morning both my customer and I were elated to discover that the skunk had made it out and was now probably back in the comfort of its own den!

We resolve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Denver County and surrounding areas. Give me a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

The situations we resolve and main trapping and removal services we provide are: raccoon families in attics and chimneys, woodpeckers drilling siding. mud swallow nests on stucco, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, voles and gophers destroying lawns, skunks stealing pet food, bat infestations, and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their commotion and smell. Raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that I and my professional wildlife removal operators are prepared to solve.

Pigeons send bloody messages in Denver, Colorado
Homeowner Derek Jones of Denver, Colorado, recently reported that pigeons nesting in his patio and roof are sending him "bloody" messages.

"We have lived in our home for only a month and already we have had to remove 2 dead pigeons," he said. "We have also found bloody feathers and blood splatters on our walkways, not something that I want to see."

Jones said the pigeons are also leaving large amounts of feathers and excrement on his front porch and steps.

"Our dream house is turning out to be a pigeon nightmare. We have already had to remove a killer bee colony. What a terrible headache and mess that was. Now, we have these stupid pigeons. I am embarrassed to have anyone come over until this problem is solved," he said.

His wife, Jennifer said that she especially loved the home because of the east-facing large front porch with it cozy porch-swing. "I thought it would be a wonderful place to sip my coffee and read the paper in the morning. Instead, I am scared to even go outside for what message the pigeons will send us next."

Jones contacted a local professional trapper and asked her about the problem.

"The blood is probably from a raccoon or a bird of prey," said Maria, a local trapper. "A hawk probably grabbed one of the pigeons or a raccoon killed the baby pigeons and ate the eggs. Either way, we should take care of the problem right away."

Maria came out quickly to the Jones' residence and set up netting and pigeon spikes. After a few days she was able to trap and remove the remaining pigeons. She then climbed up to the porch rafters and cleaned up the pigeon waste and removed the nest. She also deodorized the area and made sure that all remains were taken care of.

"I am excited to finally have people over," said Derek. "Hopefully, we won't have any more animal visitors."
