Bats a Common Problem in Dane County, Wisconsin

Dane County residents express the following concerns about bats.

I have a problem with bats in my attic and even in the walls. We've had them for a couple years and I think they have gotten worse. We never used to hear them in the walls or floors until this year. One also recently found it's way through a small pipe access in the bathroom and got loose in the bathroom. I wasn't sure what to do so I ended up trapping in the closet where it came from. I assume it is still there. I would like to know if you offer services in my area or who else I should contact if you do not. Megan F.

We have a house and barn. The unfinished part of the barn has bat colonies in the rafters. This is a very high area in the barn. We had a local bat expert check out our problem, but he did not relocate the bats and they just moved to another area. It is almost impossible to seal every crack in the unfinished portion of the barn. I would like to exclude the bats from the barn and come up with solutions to handle any future bats occupying the barn. I do not mind having a few bats, but there are too many of them. We found that the fascia on the dormer had deteriorated and there appeared to be a hole in it. I watched at dusk and in a 5 minute period saw 15 bats exit through the hole in the wood. In addition to the smell, on closer examination of the bedroom we noticed that the ceiling has some stains that I'm assuming is coming from their excrement. Todd F.
