Middlesex County Bat Control Issues

While bat populations in many parts of Connecticut are dropping, people in Middlesex County should still be mindful of bat control issues and how to live safely with these animals.

Bats are important to overall environmental health, but sharing a house or other building with them is not safe. Bats carry a number of diseases which are transmittable to humans. Bats are not neat housekeepers and their feces, urine and refuse attract a number of other pests.

Bat control does not mean extermination. We do not kill bats. We keep them out of houses and other human structures so they can roost and establish colonies in environments that are safe for them and for people.

If bats are in a home or business building we vent them out, perform or recommend necessary repairs and then make sure they cannot return. This is a multi-step process that takes many factors into consideration: time of the year, architecture of the building, species involved, etc. Our goal is to keep you and the bats safe.

The Mason Family is a great example. They knew there were bats in their attic, but were afraid that the animals would be harmed by someone attempting to remove them. During a particularly hot summer, they suddenly started finding bats inside the house. It turns out that the attic became too hot and they were seeking air conditioning. We were able to reassure the Masons that we would not harm them. The babies were nearly old enough to fly. We put an exclusion plan in place to remove the bats.

Our bat control plan went smoothly. The animals were vented out. We cleaned up the mess. The Masons had back their peace of mind and a clean, safe home. Bat control isn’t simple, but it feels that way when it is handled by a professional. Just ask the Masons.

We resolve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Middlesex County and surrounding areas. Give me a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

The situations we resolve and main trapping and removal services we provide are: raccoon families in attics and chimneys, woodpeckers drilling siding. mud swallow nests on stucco, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, voles and gophers destroying lawns, skunks stealing pet food, bat infestations, and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their commotion and smell. Raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that I and my professional wildlife removal operators are prepared to solve.

Go Green and Avoid Skunks in Middlesex County, Connecticut

I am here to tell you a bit about how to get rid of skunks, a problem many people face in Middlesex County. There are a lot of skunks here and I see them as I go around doing my job.

I am a garbage man (that's "sanitation engineer" to you) in the Middlesex County, Connecticut area. I am also an animal lover and very interested in the "green" movement. Why? Well, I am stunned at all the usable items people just throw away. I see toxic items that are improperly disposed of and know that it has long term consequences. But, perhaps most importantly is seeing how human garbage production affects wildlife and human-wildlife relations.

Hardly a week goes by that I don't find trash cans tipped over and spilled open. The cans are often tipped by dogs or raccoons, but often when I come by early in the morning I will find a skunk rooting through the mess, licking out a can or yoghurt container. Sometimes the animal will even be stuck in the container and struggling to get it off.

People are understandably annoyed and even angry over the trash mess. They are even more angry when they find that a wild animal has decided that the food is so good they should move in so it is also convenient. Skunks will forage for trash at night and sleep under the porch or crawl space or in a shed during the day. Now, people have to get rid of the skunks, or whatever other animal is around.

If you don't want to wake up to the fragrant smell of skunk spray you should be more careful of your garbage. Clean out and crush containers. Keep your garbage secure. Make less garbage in the first place. Don't make your place attractive to marauding raccoons, dogs or skunks.

The reason I am telling you this is because the garbage one thing that attracts the animals. Wild animals come on your property for two basic reasons: food and shelter. If you don't provide an attractive food source today you won't have to worry about how to get rid of skunks tomorrow.
