Skunk Odor in Baltimore County, Maryland

Where is that smell coming from? When you are driving the roads of Baltimore County, Maryland and see a road kill skunk, it is an easy question to answer, but when the animal is alive, moving around and living on your property, tracking down the source of skunk odor can be a tricky proposition.

Sometimes the skunk odor seems to come from directly under the home. People will look around and not see any obvious breaches—digging, holes, etc—and wonder how the creature could be there. The stench grows, becoming stronger and stronger until it can be nearly unbearable. People get frantic wondering how long it takes skunk odor to dissipate. They call us seeking relief.

Skunk odor is so strong and distinctive that people assume that if they smell it the animal must be close by. That is not necessarily the case. The odor can carry on the breeze, dissipate through the air or linger long after the animal has passed through.

If the animal has taken up residence on your property, skunk odor becomes a strong territory marker, alerting other animals this spot has been claimed.

If you smell skunk odor strongly and often, though, chances are that the animal is, in fact, living close by. It is common for them to get under buildings in crawlspaces. Sheds, decks and porches are favorites also. The animal may be coming up to your porch seeking food from pet dishes or bird feeders.

People who only take a casual look around their home are often surprised when we show them how the animal was getting under there. “No way,” they often say. “That is way too small.” Most wild animals can get through much smaller holes than you might imagine. You may not even notice the access point as it may be concealed behind landscaping features or mechanical systems.

We can locate the true source of the skunk odor you smell. With our special equipment and materials, we can get rid of the stink and leave your home or business smelling fresh. Don’t try to fight skunk odor alone, call a professional. Your nose will thank you.

Activists upset about raccoon removal

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MARYLA; A local animal rights activist group is scrutinizing a one of Baltimore County's most beloved philanthropists for the recent treatment of raccoons living in the attic of his home.

"Why can't this guy give his heart to animals like he does to people?" said Namaste Dorian, animal activist. €œI just don't understand."

Robert Cline is an extremely successful businessman and known philanthropist who has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars into the surrounding area with afterschool programs, a new addition to the library, etc.

"You would think that he would feel shame for what he has done," said Dorian.

Dorian's group is upset that Cline recently hired a raccoon removal specialist to take care of a group of coons making their den in his million dollar estate.

"It isn't that he removed the raccoons," said Dorian. €œBut is how they were removed that bothers me."

Clines hired local raccoon removal specialist to come and remove the raccoons from his home. Dorian said that she heard the specialist trapped the animals and therefore should be put in jail.

However, Cline said he doesn't know what Dorian is talking about. The specialist removed the raccoons with a special venting trap, but the animals were not hurt in the trapping process.

Cline said they have had the raccoons in the attic for several months without even realizing it.

"Our gardener discovered paw prints on our wood posts on the porch leading up to the eaves of our roof," said Cline. €œHe assumed it was a coon."

Cline said they have heard what sounds to be like a cat or dog walking on the eaves in the attic at night.

"It just goes back and forth, back and forth right above our bedroom," said Mrs. Emily Cline. €œIt is so hard to get any sleep."

Cline said the worst part is the smell the animals bring with them.

"There is a horrific urine odor in our family room. It is disturbing," said Cline. €œI can only assume it is coming from the raccoons."

The specialist removed the raccoons and then had to tear out the old dry wall because the animals had completely destroyed it and the insulation.

Cline had to pay a contractor hundreds of dollars to fix up the damage.

"The whole thing has been frustrating," said Cline. €œIt would be enough for someone to go through even without all of these crazy accusations."

Cline said he is just going to go on with his life. €œI know what the truth is," he said. €œAnd if someone chooses not to believe me, then that is their problem."
