Squirrel Trouble in Hartford Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection Wildlife Division gets thousands of calls each year from residents who have problems with a variety of wild animals on their property or in their homes. The good news is that a number of animal types are increasing in number in Connecticut. The bad news is that human-animal conflicts are on the rise.

People are upset when animals damage crops, spread disease or take up residence in places where they are not wanted, becoming a nuisance. Nuisance wildlife in Connecticut includes bats, skunks, beavers, pigeons, opossums, raccoons and squirrels. In Hartford County, in particular, people want to get rid of grey and flying squirrels when they move in and start to take over homes. Squirrels take advantage of existing holes in siding, soffit and fascia, and also make their own.

Why are people annoyed? The gnawing, scratching and pattering. The damaged insulation and exposed wiring. The general disruption of sleep, bird feeders and serenity.

If you have a squirrel problem in Hartford County you need to know that there are important things to consider when you want to get rid of the squirrels:

1. Do not just block off the access to the nest and assume it will be OK. The adult squirrels will do almost anything to return to the babies in the nest.

2. If the squirrel is trapped inside your home or down a chimney and then driven by thirst and hunger to the inside of your home, expect severe damage. A frightened, crazed squirrel turns into a maniac projectile and can tear up an entire room in a few minutes.

3. Squirrels that have established a home and territory will not voluntarily leave. Once they know there is food and shelter available in a particular area, like your bird feeder and attic, they will not move out. Traditional home-remedy repellents like moth balls and loud music do not work. They will make you sick and tired before they disrupt the lives of the squirrels.

4. Professional help is available. The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection Wildlife Division suggests that you contact a Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator for the removal of any squirrels or other wild animals that are causing you trouble.

We resolve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Hartford County and surrounding areas. Give me a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

The situations we resolve and main trapping and removal services we provide are: raccoon families in attics and chimneys, woodpeckers drilling siding. mud swallow nests on stucco, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, voles and gophers destroying lawns, skunks stealing pet food, bat infestations, and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their commotion and smell. Raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? Raccoon Dog Damage in Hartford County

I live in Hartford County, Connecticut and last night a raccoon attacked my dog. He is torn up really bad and had to be taken to the vet to be cleaned up and to get stitched. I have put up with this "cute animal" long enough and am ready for raccoon removal.

While at the vet's office I learned that Connecticut has a problem with rabies in raccoons, along with other animals. Thank goodness I had my dog vaccinated, but there is no vaccine for the kids, or for me.

The raccoon has been around for a while. We sometimes see it during the day, licking up birdseed under the feeder. According to the vet, just seeing the raccoon during the day doesn't mean it has rabies. Raccoons are mostly nocturnal, but particularly during the spring they will come out just about any time getting food for their babies.

I don't really have anything against the critters, but I need raccoon removal for the safety of my dog and my kids. Did you know that raccoons don't just carry rabies, but also trichinosis, tuberculosis, round worm, infectious enteritis and coccidiosis. I don't even know how to pronounce some of these words, but I do know that I don't want to have anything to do with them.

Raccoon removal isn't hard, you know. I have called a Wildlife Removal Operator, as recommended by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. They will get rid of the raccoon and return my home to peace and safety. I wish I had done this before the dog got hurt, but at least I know I am doing the right thing now.
