Pigeons Out of Control in Logan, Utah

As a pigeon removal professional, I recently responded to a customer's complaint about pigeons taking over the front entry of his home in the Logan, Utah area. It was a pleasant drive from my office to the customer's cape-cod style home. It was still early morning and the sun peeked over the eastern mountains and sunlight swept over the western end of this beautiful valley.

I parked my truck on the road in the pleasant neighborhood. The home was adorned in grey siding with white vinyl trim around the windows. Red, yellow, and purple tulips filled the flowerbeds in front. Everything looked charming until I headed up the walk, which was white and black speckled from pigeons' waste.

The trail of waste continued to the front steps and the front porch, even the once crisp white front door was speckled. I looked up to see crudely placed bird spikes and a wire fenced constructed around the gable of the porch.

I carefully placed my footing and tiptoed up the path and the stairs to the front door. I probably looked pretty funny. I rang the doorbell and a man in his late 30s appeared at the front door dressed in jeans and a t-shirt.

He was very happy to see me. He said that he had been dealing with these pigeons for months and was at his wits end. He said he had to tell his family and friends to come around to the back door now because he was so embarrassed by the state of the front of the house. There were only three to four pigeons at first, but then apparently all their friends and relatives wanted to join in on their new luxury living so now the number was up to 14.

The customer said he had tried bird spikes, but they didn't work. Then he tried electric fencing, but they just flew right by it. He also had tried to make cages out of lathing wire to try to catch them, but one of the pigeons tore the cage apart.

Fortunately for this customer, I was able to provide pigeon removal in just a few weeks. My team and I installed a leveling bracket on the roof so the trap could be level. Then with specialized lure and bait were able to trap and remove all of pigeons and dispose of them.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Logan and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

"Batting" away the barn

My name is John and me and my wife, Pamela, live on a farm next to Logan, Utah. We purchased our dream property just five years ago where we wanted to raise crops and have a place for our children to climb trees and learn how to work hard.

Everything was wonderful until recently when my young son complained that he didn't want to go out to the barn to fetch firewood for the night.

"I know it is dark, Jackson," I told him, "but the house really isn't that far. You can carry a flashlight if you want to."

I sent him out with a flashlight and he came running into the house not ten minutes later without the light and without any wood.

"What is wrong, Jackson?" my wife said, jumping to his side.

"It's the bats," he said between his hyperventilating breaths. "They are hundreds of them and they all flew at me when I entered the barnyard with the light. I had to run for my life."

We had always had one or two bats, but we had hired a local bat expert who relocated the bats to another location and had not had a problem for a few months. My wife set to calming our son down and I headed out to the barn to survey the situation.

Jackson was right! As I flicked on the flashlight and pointed it at the cupola, or the highest part of our barn, bats seemed to fly at me chasing the insects being caught in the light of my flashlight. I ran out of there as fast as I could. After my experience, I wanted to remove the bats as quickly as possible and I hired a professional trapper the next morning.

The trapper came out and told me that the only way to get rid of the bats was to completely shut them out.

"I don't mind a few bats," I said. "Can't you just get rid of the majority of them?"

"No," he said. "You can't have the best of both worlds, either you have bats or you have to get rid of all of them. You can just have a ‘few' bats."

I agreed and he and his crew began work right away. They completely tore all the old siding off the barn and replaced it with new siding. They fixed a few broken boards on the framing and caulked everything really tight.

It is really nice to be rid of the bats and the new siding on the barn looks great.
