Vole Infestation Near Golf Course in Lakewood, Colorado

I recently managed a huge vole problem near a golf course in Lakewood, Colorado. At first, I responded to a call from a family that lives right next to the golf course. They complained that they have holes all around their backyard and would like to get rid of voles. My client also said that many of his neighbors had also complained to him about the same problem.

I told him that the voles were most likely coming from the golf course itself. I could get rid of the problem in his yard, but it wouldn't mean that another set of voles wouldn't come back. He gave me the main number to the golf course and I set up a meeting with the director. He held a "town meeting" for all of the residents next to the course who felt like they had vole problems in their yards so we could get their information. Over 50 families showed up to the meeting! This place appeared to be vole heaven.

It took me and my crew several weeks, but using our special three-part mixture we were able to go around to all of the reported sites and spray the holes for the little varmints. We sprayed the entire golf course and over 25 backyards.

It has been a least three months and the director called to inform me that he has not seen another vole or hole.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Lakewood and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

Lack of Pigeon Control Causes Neighbor Squabble

LAKEWOOD – When Alicia and Jackson Wright purchased their new home last month, they had no idea that the sale would also include a pigeon clan.

"The previous owners kept the pigeons as pets in a coop in the backyard," said Mrs. Wright. "We weren't worried because they said they would take the birds with them when they moved out."

However, things didn't go according to plan.

"I guess they decided it would be too much of a hassle, so they just released the pigeons in the ‘wild' and left the coop in the backyard," said Mr. Wright.

Wright said the birds' idea of ‘the wild' is the rafters of his front porch.

"Their waste is now on our front walkway, the porch and even our front door. It is also on my kitchen window ledge," said Mrs. Wright. "It is so disgusting."

The Wrights say they have not torn down the coop or bird proofed their home yet because they don't want the pigeons to go to the neighbor's house.

"That would be a great way to start living in the neighborhood," said Mr. Wright, sarcastically.

Mrs. Wright said she doesn't want to hurt the pigeons, but wants them to be removed.

On the other hand, their neighbor Layne Erickson says the Wrights' greatest fears have already come true: the pigeons are already starting to build a nest in the attic of his home.

"It is so frustrating," said Erickson. "That Wright woman just wants the little ‘perfect solution': get rid of the birds, but please don't harm them. It just doesn't work that way. I leaped for joy when I found out the previous owners were moving and taking their nasty pigeons with them. Pigeons carry diseases and I don't want them around my family."

Erickson said the best way to get rid of them is just to have someone come out and exterminate them. He hired a professional pigeon control company to do just that.

They came out every day for approximately three weeks and trapped the pigeons on Erickson's roof.

The Wrights agreed to help Erickson pay for the costs of pigeon control until they heard that the trappers planned on euthanizing the pigeons.

"They shouldn't be destroyed just because their owners left them," said Mrs. Wright. "It isn't their fault."

However, Erickson disagrees.

"Pigeons are dirty birds and spread disease," said Erickson. "I am happy to get rid of them because that means my children will be healthy. We as humans should be managing wildlife, not having wildlife manage us."

In the end, the pigeons were removed and killed.

"I am still not too happy about it," said Mrs. Wright. "But having two small children myself, I realized that keeping them safe was a lot more important."
