Dead Possum in Alexandria, Virginia

As much trouble as a live possum can be, a dead possum is worse. Just ask Steve from Virginia. He thought the animals living in his crawl space were a problem. They got into the pet food at night. They made scratching noises. They left poop all over. None of that was at all nice.

Then, he and his family started to be troubled by a terrible smell. He was certain that one of the animals had died under the house. He poked around under there two times and couldn't find the animal. He thought he had looked everywhere, but had no luck. He checked inside the home and in the attic. The smell was so widespread and overwhelming that he couldn't find the source.

His family was disgusted when they realized that they were starting to smell like a dead possum. The smell of a dead animal has a way of getting into your hair and clothes like cigarette smoke. It permeates your window coverings, carpet and upholstery. It can even change the taste of your food.

When Steve called us I let him know that we could solve all of his problems with possums. We could locate and get rid of the dead possum. We could determine if there were still live animals in the home. We could figure out how the animals had invaded the home in the first place and show him the necessary maintenance and repairs that would keep the animals out. (We often perform the repairs, but Steve is a do-it-yourself kind of guy and wants to take care of it.) We also have the equipment and materials necessary to deodorize and decontaminate the home.

People are usually worried about the odor problem first, but the decontamination problem is truly the most critical for long-term health. While the animal was alive it made a mess—feces, urine, etc. But, once it is dead, it IS the mess. Flies, maggots, scavengers, all kinds of bacteria. It doesn't look nice, but it can make you feel even worse. We have the experience and expertise to truly clean up your home. It won't just smell clean when we are done, but it will be clean deep down where it counts. No, we don't do the windows, but we will clean up what truly matters.

There is no reason for Steve and his family or anyone else to live with a dead possum. While animal control operators prefer to deal with live animals, we can take care of the dead ones, too.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Alexandria and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

Squirrels in a Garage and Attic in Alexandria, VA

Several weeks ago, I heard some kind of little animal running around in my attic. I was so scared. My parents were quite poor when I was growing up and we lived in a really old home. We constantly had mice and cockroaches in the home. I always hated it when I had to go to the bathroom at night. I hated to see the roaches scatter in the night when I turned on the light. I had to remember to put on my slippers to make sure I didn't squash any with my bare feet. Because of this, I have always been afraid of creepy crawly things. When I grew up, I vowed to never have my kids go through what I did. I also never wanted to cook in a kitchen again that you might be afraid would have "roasted rodent" along with your chicken casserole.

I immediately called the pest control company that services my yard. One of their technicians came out right away and checked out the attic for me. He said he did not see any animals, but did see "very large droppings" of some kind. He then found a hole in my garage wall. He put poison out and told me to leave the hole open for a few days.

I waited a few days, but the scampering was still going on in the ceiling. I have several large trees around my property and see squirrels going back and forth on the trees. I thought it was possible that they might have made their den in my attic.

I looked through the yellow pages and found a company that advertized themselves as "professional trappers." I contacted them and they came out right away. This guy said that I did have squirrels in the attic. He set up some crazy looking traps, but was able to flush the squirrels out of the attic. He removed them from my property and also patched up the hole in the garage.
